Need some help! My mom 72 took a fall about 2 1/2 weeks ago, needed to have brain Surgery, and also has Huntingtons Disease and was placed in a rehab place for care. She has Perferred Care Insurance for now. I have most of her papers in order durable power of Attorney, Health care and DNR, but I'm lost on what to do when it comes to the possilbity of long term care. My sister and nephew live with her and she owns the home. I have read the qualification for Medicad, but am confussed when it comes to the assets and the money. She has a joint account with my husband which is where the SS check is deposited(1535)monthly. She has no other income and has never work. She does have about $3600 in the checking to included this months SS, which I need to pay the taxes and insurance on the house. I had to transfer some money to pay for these things mentioned above this month. She also has some life insurance policys, I pay for one and she pays for one total $20,000 would this be an assest? Do you think she would qualify for Medicad?
If the rehab place says they would recommend long term care can I say I want to take her home and faciliate home care? Can I refuse to put her in long term care for now? My sister is there at night and my nephew part of the day and I will also do my part and will pay for someone to come in part of the day. Her mind is still there she just can't move very well. Look forward to your advice.
