Hi. I am the 24/7/365 caregiver for my mother with Alzheimer disease. Mom has lived here with me for 15 months. My life has changed 360 degrees. There is not one area of my life that remains the way it was 16 months ago. Taking care of mom is like having a 160 pound infant, except that with your child you can discipline them and with a mother who is an adult I cannot! I do not have a support network. There is no one who is willing to help with mom's care except for my dear husband who works full time. I gave up my job as a nurse to take care of mom. I worked in a nursing home with Alzheimer patients for four years and I thought that taking care of one person 100% of the time would be easier than taking care of 12 people 5 days a week for 12 hour shifts. I was wrong. Caretaking a parent is very difficult. Mom is my mom and there are certain things that are simply off limits when it comes to a parent/child. Is there anyone out there that identifies with me? If so I would absolutely love to hear from you. God bless you for what you are doing! gardenrunner2
