Hi everyone, My father has recently been DX with AD. We are just starting this journey and I need all the help and information I can get. I am the only caregiver. So far we have been through hallucinations, being angry and very forgetful. Daddy was put on Risperdal and Reminyl. This stopped the visions and has helped his memory so very much. He is doing so well I have wondered if it happened at all, but it did. I just hope and pray it continues. I don't have alot of input to offer for help yet, but I want to let you know I am here to listen and encourage you if I can. This is new to so many and I have learned so much from others who have been where I haven't yet, and I am very thankful to all who share their emotions and experiences. I look forward to getting to know you all.
God Bless Rommie

Dear Rommie, Welcome to our support group on line. It is also important for you to join an "in person" local support group. Contact the Alzheimer's Association to get a list of groups in your area. Ask about respite care (which would give you a break) as being the only caregiver is difficult. Are you Dads' Durable Power of Attorney and Health Care Surrogate...most important to get asap if you don't have it Let me know if you need to see an Elder Law Attorney in your area as I have a list. If you need more information, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Gilda O'Brien Caregiver Consultant

Hi there, my Mom has been through the paranoia and hallucinations also. Due to wonderful cooperation from her MD and Nurse Practitioner things have calmed down also with use of medications. I am a Geriatric Care Manager but I can tell you it is so different experiencing rather than just giving advice. I have to say that I had to place my Mom and would STRONGLY recommend the very small Assisted Livings if it comes to that. I would be very glad to share any info. I am so glad I found this. I know it is going to get worse.
