We started out with four: My parents and my husband's parents all in the same boat at various levels. My Dad passed away a few months ago.He was in the final stage of Alzheimers. ASlthough we relize this is for the best, it still hurts. My Mom especially is devistated.
We have my Mom, mom-in-law and father-in-law that we are trying to help now. They all live in CT. We live in FL. We both have sisters who live closer to the parents, but are single working mothers who can only do so much. We try to do what we can when we can.
We really would appreciate some suggestions, help, etc. on how to deal with these aliens who took over our parent's minds.
Through the course of Dad's ALzheimer's, our family learned some things which may be of help to some of you too.

Unfortunately, aliens have not taken over your parents minds as much as it might seem. They are still in there and you will need to use other avenues to find them.
Try using photo albums from the past for them it is a good way for the family members to communicate as well as stir memories that may still be in tact for your loved ones.
Since your family members cannot help where they are in this disease process you will need to find ways to go to their special place with them and take the journey they travel. It can be a very rocky road sometimes, but if you make the effort to go where they are it will make it a much smoother ride. Remember their life is their reality now and you cannot change that so it is better to go with the flow.
If your busy family has the time support groups are a wonderful thing. Have them call the local Alzheimer's Assn. for more info. They also offer other support services that can be vital to your family caregivers well being.
