When asked if Medicaid covers assisted living, I would normally say no. BUT there now may be help. Medicaid will pay for the Assited Living Facility with a new program. This new program is called the Nursing Home Diversion Program and went into effect on November 7, 2003 in Pinellas County. It is a pilot state program designed to divert people from nursing homes to ALF's. (and it just might work)

The Diversion Program is a great opportunity for many of my clients that are not quite ready for the nursing home but can't be in their own homes any longer. The program can also provide home care.

We believe that this new program can keep you from the nursing home longer. Added benefits include complete drug coverage and payment of all Medicare deductibles. This is GREAT news, but the program is going to be limited to 1800 participants and is filling up fast.

Sean.
