My husband has an adult SS disability. Under SS he has to wait 2 years and 5 full months after the injury for Medicare. His SSDI disqualified him for medicaid in our State (only half of the States have a brain injury income waiver for Medicaid). We have 5 more mos until he gets Medicare. Last Summer he began showing signs of early Alzheimers and I was told by his doctor that eventually I would not be able to keep him at home.

I need to move to Florida where I can get help from family members for his care. How can I find out if he can qualify for Florida Medicaid paid nursing home care - if and when the time comes? In our State, at worst he won't qualify for any help. At best, the facility will take his SSDI check and we will loose our home. I can't afford to keep it going on just my income. In the mean time I am burdened by the responsibility of his day to day care and no resources in our State. I would like topics on what resources are available to pay for the care of brain injured/ Alzheimers/Dementia patients. Thank you. christine.
