The Forgetting:
A Portrait of Alzheimer’s

In early 2004, PBS willpresent Twin Cities Public Television’s, The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer’s. This is a major two-hour prime-time event, which includes a 90-minute original documentary with a half-hour follow-up show full of useful information and resources.

The Forgetting offers a touching and in depth look at this chronic progressive disease that touches nearly every American family.

Based on David Shenk’s critically acclaimed book, this documentary is designed to help people better understand this disease and to face their personal fears about Alzheimer’s. It addresses the difficult role of the 10 to 15 million caregivers in America, many of whom are likely to experience “exhaustion, depression and bankruptcy.”

The Forgetting will also look at the national policy issues involved with Alzheimer’s to help people better understand this potential epidemic and the steps our country might take to address it. Alzheimer’s is slated to reach epidemic proportion in eight years when the first of America’s 78 million Baby Boomers turn 65.
